Cold Weather – Is There a Need?

Written by:  Kraig Ware TYGES International

One thing that you are probably aware of in most parts of our country, the temperatures are dropping.  As we all take the time to prepare ourselves and our families for the winter season with the basic needs, ask yourself this question:

Is there a need around you?

Do this for me.  Tonight or in the morning, when you are briskly walking from/to your car from your work and/or your daily activities all bundled up in the basic necessities like a pair of gloves, a hat, a scarf, or a coat to keep warm, just stop for a momeColdnt:

  • Close your eyes
  • Feel the cold
  • Do this for a minute or two, perhaps even longer to really get the effect
  • OK, first make sure your co-workers or neighbors are not looking

When your experiment is done and you get into your car, home, or place of work to warm up, think about how the cold felt.  The cold you felt, even with the basic necessities that you were wearing or perhaps you are still wearing because you are so cold.  If you are really bold, try the experiment without your gloves, hat, scarf, or coat.

Now, Open your eyes…No really, open your eyes.  Take a look around your office, school, community, and neighborhood and see if there is a need for these basic necessities.  Then do what you feel led to do.  Perhaps you could get your office, school club, association, or church you belong to help you out.  LOOK, the need is there.

How do I know there is a need where you are?

Recently, TYGES International, led by Kelly Rangel, our Director of Healthcare, received a phone call from our County where our corporate office resides.  The person said that she was embarrassed to call us; however, there were several students that did not have a coat for the winter; she asked if we could help.  Kelly assessed the need (opened her eyes) and then took action within our office at TYGES International.  Our team was able to purchase 22 coats for those kids, who unlike you or I, didn’t have a simple coat or coat(s) for the sole purpose of just keeping warm and healthy.  Sure 22 is not a big number; but it is 22.

Perhaps you could just do one or perhaps you could do hundreds…either way +one is always better.

Just one of the ways TYGES is #GivingBack.  Perhaps you are doing something else that is making a positive impact on those around you.  We would love to hear how you are #GivingBack.  Please share with us using the hashtag #GivingBack about how you, your company, your school, your organization is #GivingBack.
